Nancy MacLean, finalist for the 2017 National Book Award, will discuss her work, Democracy in Chains, where she uncovers the history of the well-heeled radical right’s vast network. She explains why this network doesn’t want simply to change who rules, but to fundamentally alter the rules of democratic governance as we have known them in the United States. These changes are barriers to achieving single-payer and other policies that serve the common good. MacLean is the William H. Chafe Professor of History and Public Policy at Duke University.
