Come to Washington, DC!
Join members of EPSPAN and other single-payer advocates in DC on April 17. We will visit all of the Congressional offices to drop off materials and also gather contact information for all of the Health Legislative Assistants for the Single Payer Educator project. If you are able to participate, please contact us at email@example.com and cc firstname.lastname@example.org. It will be an all-day event, and afterwards we will gather for a meal.
Urge Bernie Sanders to Strengthen His Medicare for All Act
Sen. Sanders is expected to introduce his Medicare for All Act soon. We are urging him to strengthen it. Already the outcry over excluding long term care has had an impact. We hear he will include long term care this time, but we don’t yet know what that will look like.
In the News
Only 106 members of Congress have signed onto the new NIMA bill compared to 124 in the last session. Michael Corcoran of Truthout explains why there are fewer co-sponsors and what that means for the bill’s future. Carl Gibson names the names of those not supporting Medicare for All and how much money they received in industry donations.
How pathetic is the opposition to NIMA? Libby Watson investigated the “Average Americans” who oppose it. You may be surprised, or maybe you already expected this. Janine Jackson of Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting interviews Diane Archer about the media spin.
On the positive side, support for NIMA is greater than the opposition. Joe Sanberg, founder of Blue Apron, describes why it is good for business. And medical students demonstrate their support.
We need to continue to broaden the movement. Ashwin Vasan of The Marshall Project urges us not to leave out people who are incarcerated, who are exempted from the Social Security Act.
Keep up the great work for NIMA!
Sincerely, Margaret Flowers and the HOPE team
